Children in church
Children and families are welcome at all of our services and we would love to see you. We don’t mind noise and a bit of chaos.
At the back of Church you will find a creche area with toys and books for if your children get restless. We recommend that you try to start mass in the pews and then move there if you need to. It is a really good practice to talk to your children about what is going on at the services as there is lots to see happening this both helps to teach them the faith and keeps them interested.
If your child is having a really bad day and is becoming very disruptive you are welcome to go into the Lady Chapel at the back of church near the creche which has large windows and a glass door that can be closed so that you can still see what is going on.
Sunday school
Sunday school currently happens during the Solemn Mass on the first Sunday of the month. this is for children who are not yet in secondary school. Children gather in the front couple of rows for the beginning of mass and after the first hymn are sent out with the Sunday school teachers for their time of learning. The sessions are based on one of the readings that are read at the mass that Sunday and involve some teaching about it and a craft activity. Just before communion the children join us again in church and come to receive a blessing while those who are confirmed receive communion. At the end of Mass they have a chance to show the congregation what they have learned that day.
Childrens’ Masses
On the fourth Sunday of each month the Solemn Mass on a Sunday is slightly different. our children and young people sign up to do the three readings and lead the intercessions (prayers), they also help with the offertory procession and the sermon that day is interactive and involves them. A sign up sheet for the readings is usually available the Sunday before.
Solemn Mass
10:00 Every Sunday morning.
This is the High point of every week. The mass is the only form of worship the New Testament records Jesus telling his disciples to celebrate im remembrance of Him. We come together to celebrate the Mass together supported by singing hymns, incense, a large team of altar servers, and full ceremonial. Mass takes around an hour and 10 minutes. Find out more about what the mass is here.
Low Mass
This is a much more simple celebration of mass which happens most days. It is a lot more quiet. Usually the priest is not supported by any servers and on occasion just one. There is no music and everything is said. Most of the time these masses are celebrated in the Lady Chapel at the back of church. They take a little under half an hour.
Stations of the cross
On Fridays in the season of Lent (40 days running up to easter) we have Stations of the Cross. In this service we walk with Jesus from his being condemned to death by Pontius Pilate through 14 “Stations” contemplating His final journey to His crucifixion and burial. The Stations of the cross are permanently on the walls of the church and so this devotion can be done by anyone whenever they are in church.
